What Brown is talking about is a revolution that will remake our relationship with our planet, and with our fellow animals.

Eating meat is bad for the environment, of that there is no doubt. And the moral arguments against killing animals are compelling. Humans currently slaughter about 1,600 mammals and birds every second for food – that is half a trillion lives a year, plus trillions more fish, crustaceans and molluscs. The total biomass of all the world's livestock is almost exactly twice that of humanity itself. And while crops that feed people cover just 4% of the Earth's usable surface (land that is not covered by ice or water, or is bare rock), animal pastureland accounts for a full 30%. Our meat, in other words, weighs twice as much as we do and takes seven times as much land to grow."

The Glamorous World of Food Waste

In 2021 we’re reviving the Best Before Project blog and increasing our media presence and visibility to spread the word about our work. In order to do that however, there’s one important thing you should know about us, the target of our project - Reducing food waste. It’s not the most glamorous subject to learn about, but understanding food waste is key to understanding our goals and why we do what we do. The BBPs main goal is to educate the public on the misconceptions about best before dates and reduce the amount of food ending up in landfills. So many of us assume that when a piece of food reaches its best before date, it’s ‘gone off’ but the BBP aims to show that this isn’t the case and that there are many things to do with food that’s past its best before date. Recently we have been receiving a big amount of food in our East Acton storage. take a look!

Best before, still good after – not only food :)

We are in constant need of sealable storage boxes in which we temporarily store all the lovely food donated to us by businesses willing to go the extra mile not to waste food before we we redistribute it among local charities. We’d like to thank The London Borough of Lambeth Waste Prevention Team, and Pawel Ryczan in particular, for collecting from their depot boxes saved from landfill and donating them to Best Before Project to be put to good use again.
